Flower Power
This week I have been working on making headbands. By taking a strip of fabric and gathering the bottom and then sewing a button onto the center I created some cute flowers which I then sewed onto simple elastic headbands. My roommates I have been wearing them all week! They were easy to make and very fun to wear.

Sigh
I want a closet.
A huge, beautiful, shiny closet.
Painted white shelves.
Pink carpet and tall mirrors.
I want a glass vanity with drawers for my jewelry and scarves.
Clothes on matching hangers, organized by color.
I want hats lines up on hooks.
Bags stowed neatly in white drawers.
And endless shelves of high heeled shoes.

Play Day
I had a fabulous day today with my lovely friend Torunn; we got breakfast at The Buttery in Santa Cruz and then sewed ourselves some delightful new dresses using old fabric we had laying around. Torunn created a blue paisley dress with full sleeves that cuffed at the wrist and I used a gauzy purply print to create a one-shouldered dress. We modeled and photographed the dresses in my backyard and the pictures came out beautifully. What a wonderful day of creativity!

Short and Sweet

I ended my fall semester with an exciting new change; I chopped my hair, which I had been attempting to grow down to my ankles, all off. I was inspired by Carey Mulligan's sweet Twiggy-like pixie and Emma Watson's adorable new do. After contemplating and trying to envision the haircut for several weeks, I went to my hairdresser with pictures in hand of what I wanted my hair to look like and cut my hair shorter than I had ever before.
I love it. Whatever I wear now seems to have a more sophisticated edge; my jewelry makes a bigger statement; a quick blow dry and a little product and I am ready to go. It is so fun to do something different.
Sewing Again!
This year for Christmas I asked Santa for a new sewing machine, something small and basic for my dorm room and an outlet for creativity between school and studying. I got a simple Singer sewing machine that is perfect; it even has a big S on the front! I have been sewing with it for the last week, working on two different projects: a knee length pleated skirt and a retro inspired dress. I chose to make the dress after spotting a wonderfully bright paisley print at the fabric store and being inspired. I finished the dress yesterday and love the way it turned out! The pink piping completely made it.
It being my winter break and the new year, I am starting to write again! My goal: at least one creative project a week to put on my blog.
